Alexandra Christoforakis is a versatile young American mezzo-soprano who is equally at home in operatic, concert, and cabaret venues. Praised for her “sensitive and sparkling” (The Washington Post) and “stunningly effective” performances, Ms. Christoforakis is regarded as an up-and-coming performer in the opera world.

During the 2008-2009 season, Ms. Christoforakis’ engagements include creating the role of Malacorpa in a workshop reading of John Musto’s new opera, An Inspector from Rome with the Wolf Trap Opera Company, the role of Filippyevna in Eugene Onegin with the Maryland Opera Studio, and ensemble performances in Aïda and Norma with the Baltimore Opera. In the summer of 2009, she will return to the Pine Mountain Music Festival to revive one of her most notable roles to date - Fidalma in Il Matrimonio Segreto.

Other notable performances include Brigitta in Die Tote Stadt and Alma March in Little Women (Summer Opera Theatre Company), Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro (Bel Cantanti), and creating the role of Mrs. Malaprop in Kirke Mechem’s opera, The Newport Rivals (Maryland Opera Studio.) On the concert stage, Ms. Christoforakis has performed notable masses and oratorios, such as Bach’s Mass in b minor and St. John Passion, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Handel’s Messiah.

Ms. Christoforakis has been a Young Artist with the Pine Mountain Music Festival, the Opera and Music Theatre Festival of Lucca, and the Bay View Music Festival. She holds her Master of Music from the University of Maryland (Maryland Opera Studio) and received her Bachelor of Music cum laude from New York University.

A native of Rochester, NY, Ms. Christoforakis currently resides in the Washington/Baltimore metro area and studies with Dr. Leneida Crawford.
